Battle of Heart and Mind

Your heart leads one way and your mind another,
So you confide in father, mother, sister ‘n brother
Because you don’t know what to do, when or how,
But you want to bow to the leanings of your heart,
But the sensibility of your mind takes another part,
So you start to unravel as differing advice is given,
And you can no longer clearly see virtue and vice;
Ah! Does not the heart lead the way thru the day,
While the mind binds you to stay in the banality
Of rationality, bold but so terribly cold, unfeeling?
Yet the heart often leads astray and it’s the mind
That holds you at bay within sense and sensibility;
So what do you do? Follow the pull of your heart?
Or depart from emotion in motion with the mind?
Ah! Heart and mind at war . . . and which will win?

To Be Me

How can I be other than how I am constituted?
Am I not human and in humanity thus rooted?
And writer, speaker, poet, teacher unpolluted?
Will I deny this and be something convoluted?
But I am not a plumber, engineer or drummer;
I am not a manager or trafficker or chancellor;
And I am not a cabdriver or piper or sea diver;
But I am what I am and want to be what I am,
God help me, and to be the better of what I am!
To find my fit in this bit of this world I inhabit!
And I hear a still, soft voice saying, ‘You will. . .’
And with that I cling to a hope rooted in truth,
To be all that I am meant to be for all to see . . .
To be me

Lay It All Down

Malice, envy, chalice of poison, strife and callous thought;
Bile of vile hate, your seared heart the gate of needy greed;
Seed of lust that must be satiated at the cost of innocence

Lay it all down before you drown
Take up your crown
Take up your crown
And dress in new, unspotted gown

Apathy, lack of empathy, careless ways, and reckless days;
Pride and arrogant stride, haughty looks, and crooked books;
Dirty tricks and bricks and bombs of battle and idle prattle

Lay it all down before you drown
Take up your crown
Take up your crown
And dress in new, unspotted gown

There are better ways for brighter days for everyone
Under the sun in peace and harmony if we earnestly
And fervently seek and find and bind ourselves to it,
But we have to give up all that tears down around us!
Yes . . .

Lay it all down before you drown
Take up your crown
Take up your crown
And dress in new, unspotted gown

Lay it all down before you drown
Take up your crown
Take up your crown
And dress in new, unspotted gown

Stand and Listen to the Wind

Stand and listen to the wind

Listen to the wind echo through your soul
Listen to the wind breathe the words of heavenly realms
Listen to the wind whisper numinous dreams of what may yet be
Listen to the wind speak your deep, most secret thoughts
Listen to the wind voice the world around

Stand and listen to the wind

In the turbulence of your mind feel the breeze
In the cacophony of your soul hear this serene, soft voice
In the clamor of your heart being torn apart listen to the comfort
In the confusion of your spirit open to the cool tranquility
In the turmoil of your psyche inhale the zephyr

Stand and listen to the wind

There is the everlasting despite time
There is pure peace out of the pieces
There is truth amid all the deception
There is purpose arising out of chaos
There is destiny even in desperation

Stand and listen to the wind
Stand and listen to the wind
Stand and listen to the wind

Resplendent

Like onyx and gold, diamonds and pearls,
Your soul so bold, mind on fire against the cold;
An heavenly pendant; you are resplendent.
No one on earth, before nor after your birth,
Quite like you, and so few even near; can you hear?
Can you hear the angels calling, crystal falling
At your feet to the beat of ethereal wings
As numinous choir sings to bring you precious pleasure
Forever yours; do you know ‘gainst the blow
Of fierce world around you, you are not bound,
But free to descend to deepest depths, then climb
Into the blue skies above with love, your only carrier?
There is no barrier to what you may know and feel,
What you may be and become, even as some have before,
And some still do today, resplendent in face of dismay.
Resplendent, and you may be transcendent, dependent
Upon only the One ~ the One in you and thru you ~
And no one else. Hear the band playing in the distant
And in the stars above, through the sands of time,
Grit and grime; hear the spirits chime in rhythm
Of your destiny held and exhaled with every breath
And heart beat; only part of your story has been told;
More there is to be written so freely and happily…

You Are Resplendent.

Serendipity: Healing

So silently slip into peace and rest,
For the best of Life is yet to come
Some sure and certain, unending day,
Some say; home…

Can you see across the lush, rolling green hills
On far horizon, shimmering lake of serendipity,
Where plays barely audible symphony of reality?
Beautiful sound and imagery…

Pound of your heart keeps rhythm and rhyme
With angelic serenity where rests your
Soul identity, and with no brevity of life;
Font of plenty…

Healing

Bouncing Ball (Triple Haiku)

Bouncing ball to play
One child sees much brighter day
And what should we say?

Yes, be like the child
Just carefree and fun and wild
And yet meek and mild

Leave behind the fray
And, oh, go the child’s way
And for awhile stay

Jesus once said that you have to become like a child to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, for the Kingdom is made of children. Perhaps, then, we adults need to learn to grow down?
