Fare Thee Well, Good Lady

Oh, how terrible it is to say I am not right for you!
You are so beautiful and noble, precious and true;
I knew from the beginning this would not work,
So why did I shirk my duty to cut this off early?
Surely, though, you knew too that I am broken,
And that I haven’t even a token in life to give you!
You deserve a better man, stronger hand
And a beautiful bejeweled wedding band;
So now the time has come to part ways this day
And say my sad but fond ‘fare-thee-well,’
Rather than sell my soul for any illusion;
And this shall be the conclusion, no turning back
To burning heart for love in which I have no part
. . .
Fare-thee-well, my good lady . . . fare-thee-well!
