Dreams of You

I dream along the stream of night, dreams of you,
Then awaken in the morning shaken and alone;
Oh, the longing in my heart to belong to you; I do,
But how deeply I sense your absence!
Yet you speak in the morning dawn,
Not scorning my yearning for you, bright ‘n true;
New words of love as birds greet the rising sun,
And another day has just begun —
One spun carefully by your hand —
But the sands of time do flow, and not so slowly,
So when, O when, will you come to me?
You see I so want to be your lover true!
Ah! And will I plod along again, trod this earth
Without your intimate companionship?
And will you say this is silly sentiment?
But my life is utterly spent as my heart is bent
On holding you, holding me, as we should be!
And so another night flight will come and go
While I live below your sight wondering when
We might meet more intimately
With each and every heartbeat . . .
Oh, the longing in my heart to belong to you; I do,
As I dream along the night stream, dreams of you,
Dreams of You . . .
