Crumble: Islands in the Sky

You build islands in the sky, queen so serene of an effervescent kingdom,
Symptom of confused illusion in fearsome grasp for reality through prism
Of lies that fly through your tainted mind painted with unsavory desires
No higher than the garbage of earthen turf where only the dead find worth.

And do you think when you blink that the world disappears only to reappear
When you deign to reopen your eyes? That one will wait and satiate himself
On whimsical dreams as he screams through the night in frightful despair
That your promises are but another nightmare to tear apart his very soul?

And do you imagine your rescue will come from another lying manipulation
In imitation of love that is an aberration of purity, molestation of the truth?
Do you suspect he is blind to all wiles, that he’ll respect your vile passion,
And curl in your corner like dog in the fog of the war for his heart and mind?

Kingdoms totter, tumble, crumble
And love will not be soiled
Or boiled in ego cauldron

    1. Aye! Unless we have our feet planted firmly on solid rock rather than the effervescence of vacuous islands in the sky… Too true, my friend, too true! πŸ˜‰

  1. Johnathan,

Your poem at first reminded me a bit of the song: Island in the sky by Ryan Bingham, and then I could see another dimension. The desire for truth to prevail, and the speaker’s heart to be set on the best ground that could keep them happy.
I am always fascinated by your care when you choose words. They are always handpicked to send the message across.

Please have a beautiful week ahead.
    Blessings,
    Dajena πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you, Dajena! The title also reminded me of a song, “Islands in the Sky,” by a Christian group named Mastadon… Thank you very much for your kind words! All the best to you w/blessings! πŸ™‚
