Touch the earth, place of your birth,
Your soul from the hearth of heaven;
Touch all those who have gone before,
Who adore you, and watch you through
So many numinous soil portals, these
Immortals, who make the you of you.
Touch the blue sky and say ‘good-bye’
To earthen home; leave your life tome
Behind for others to find and then read
To know you as you make them you, too,
In this slow show of unending life cycle
With no beginning and with no ending.
Note: This poem was inspired by a portion of reading from Thích Nhất Hạnh’s No Death, No Fear.
